Overview

The CS431 is a pressure transducer manufactured for use with Campbell Scientific data loggers. It measures both water level and water temperature in canals, wells, ponds, harbors, lakes, streams and tanks. Campbell Scientific data loggers measure the sensor's output and then converts the measured value to the desired units.

Technical Description

The CS431 uses piezoresistive strain gage technology to measure water level and an on-board thermistor to measure temperature. Piezoresistive transducers include a strain gage bonded to a pressure-sensitive diaphragm. Electrical resistance changes as pressure changes on the diaphragm.

The CS431 has a 316 stainless steel body and Viton® and Teflon® wire seals that resist corrosion. Its double-sealed, cable harness protects the cable jacket and reduces the possibility of leakage. The end cone is interchangeable with a ¼” NPT inlet allowing easy hookup and field calibration. You can choose a polyurethane or Teflon cable (see Ordering Info). Both cable options are vented.

Data Logger Considerations

The pressure measurement requires two differential channels and one excitation channel, and the temperature measurement requires one single-ended channel and one excitation channel. The CR500 and CR510 do not have sufficient channels to measure both pressure and temperature.

Related FAQs

Number of FAQs related to CS431-L: 2

  1. The information included on a calibration sheet differs with each sensor. For some sensors, the sheet contains coefficients necessary to program a datalogger. For other sensors, the calibration sheet is a pass/fail report.

  2. This depends on the information contained in the calibration sheet:

    • If the calibration sheet contains coefficient information, Campbell Scientific keeps a copy, and a replacement copy can be requested.
    • If the calibration sheet does not contain coefficients, Campbell Scientific does not keep a copy. It may be possible to contact the original manufacturer for a replacement copy.
