The 41002 was a naturally aspirated 12-plate radiation shield. Its louvered construction allowed air to pass freely through the shield thereby serving to keep the probe at or near ambient temperature. The shield' was white, which reflected solar radiation. The 41002 could house an HMP45C, HMP35C, CS500, 107, 108, or 43347 sensor (adapter plate or split nut may have been required; see Ordering Info tab).

One difference between the retired 41002 and its contemporary, the 41003-5, is that the 41003-5 can be attached to either a horizontal or vertical pole, whereas the 41002 could only be attached to a vertical pole (i.e., tripod mast).
