Image upload

TracyAU Aug 2, 2011 11:58 PM

Hey Tanner,

Tried uploading an image but it didn't seem to do anything. In the past you got an email notification that showed the file path. Is that possible now? Also, do all images now reside in the one folder or are there separate folders for each region. If so, what is the naming convention? Do we prefix with au_ as before? Do we upload thumbnails or are they created on the fly from the larger image? If so, how do we designate that the image is a thumbnail?

Thanks,

Tracy

Hi Tracy,

We've updated the way we do things to keep the images cleaner and make it easier for global use. When you upload to the image library it is creating a new record in the images table. If you open the library you should see your picture as the first in the list of records.

This means there is no longer a prefix that is applied or needs to be applied. However, in an effort to keep the images clean and re-useable by others we suggest that for the file you select as a PNG you upload a max dimensioned .png file of 700px and then whatever the original working file was for the original. For example a large tif file is what we use for all of our exhibits and to generate the 700px png. This 700px png is then made into 6 smaller versions when it is uploaded. Making it useable by different areas of the site. The original file is uploaded and will always have a download link provided to it. This also is to aid in usability by other sites for their own projects.

For document thumbnails we will be using the document itself to create the thumbnail and it does not need to be added to the image library. Once Lex has been able to give you all instructions to setup your document folders we can start generating those.
