CR1000 clock seems to run slow

userE Jun 24, 2011 01:40 PM

Hi,

at one of my CR1000's, the clock started (approx. 2 weeks ago) to deviate from correct time (after having worked perfectly for several months). I have no remote access to this logger, so a manual data download and clock check is done once a week. Presently, the clock loses roughly 1 hour per week, whereas the data have no gaps, so I expect a "continuous time loss". The logger is supplied by grid connection, and the battery voltage readings are constantly at 12.1 V. (Occasional breakdown of grid supply is theoretically possible, but I have not observed this in the recent data.) However, the logger is from 2007 and has not always been grid-connected, so I could imagine that an internal battery which supplies the clock might be at the end of its lifetime. (However, even if so: Can this prevent the clock from correct function even in case of continuous power supply?)
-> What to do?
Is there an easy way to exchange the clock (resp. the related battery) "on site", or should I install a new logger and send the old one to Campbell?

Thanks

userE,

The internal battery is only drawn on when external power is not available. So, I do not think this behavior is related to the internal lithium battery. When you say the logger is supplied by "grid connection" do you mean that the site has a battery and charging regulator (example PS100) being float charged by AC power? Or is a AC/DC converter being used to supply power directly to the 12V input of the logger? If the latter, I wonder if it is possible that ripple in the DC input is somehow interfering with the clock (not sure if this is possible). Or maybe a surge on the grid input has damaged the logger. I would definitely try a different logger and see if the problem follows.
