RF401 as a router to set up a net,possible ?

dujt Sep 20, 2010 08:40 AM

Dear CSI engineer,
I want to use the RF401 as a router,to connect with other RF 401,as follows:

RF401(RS232 to PC)----RF401(As Router,the arrange of Parkbus 100-110,with parkbus 100 as it self)----RF401(Parkbus 101)
----RF401(Parkbus 102)
----RF401(Parkbus 103)
----RF401(Parkbus 104)
,is it possible or not?if this can work,if there is any special settings I need to pay attention to.

Thanks.

It is possible to configure the RF401 as a stand-alone router. My suggestion is to use the network planner (now part of LoggerNet 4.0) to create a model for your network. It should generate the settings for all of the devices in your network.

Thanks for your reply.
I know that, but I still have some problems,I want to use one RF401 as ONLY a RF router, that means it can't be connected to PC or datalogger, the default settings in the instruction manual are:
Beacon Interval: 60 seconds
Verify Interval: 150 seconds
Hello List: None
Central Router: None
it's too simple,I want to know more about the details, like how to set it as a router ,how to set other RF401's address etc.If possible, could you please send me some documents about the setting? my Email:dujt.caas@gmail.com
Really appreciate it.

The network planner is fully able to configure the RF401 as a router. I have just done so using the details for your original description. Here are some of the settings that it generates:

For the RF401 router

Active Interface: PakBus Router
Protocol: PakBus Node
PakBus Verify Interval: 90
PakBus Beacon Interval: 60
PakBus Address: 101

For the PC connected RF401

Active Interface: RS-232
Protocol: PakBus Aware
RS-232 Baud: 38.4K

For the RF401 Connected to One of the Dataloggers

Active Interface: Datalogger SDC
Protocol: PakBus Aware
SDC Address: 7

For the CR1000 connected to the radio above

PakBus Address: 104
Is Router: 0
Beacon Interval SDC7: 0
Verify Interval SDC7: 0
Max Packet Size: 250
Baud Rate COMSCDC: 115200 Fixed

You can find the manual for the RF401 on our web site:

http://www.campbellsci.com/documents/manuals/rf401-rf430.pdf

You can find the PakBus Networking Guide there as well:

http://www.campbellsci.com/documents/manuals/pakbusnetguide.pdf

The networking guide explains general PakBus terminology and the basics of how a PakBus network communicates.
