CR23X and PC208W help

SMM Jun 30, 2010 03:59 PM

I am trying to learn how to use a cr23x datalogger via pc208w software (on a Windows XP laptop). So far this has all been done in my office. The goal is to be able to connect a wind sensor and a laser disdrometer (probably the Parsivel) to the logger, and possibly output data to a PC via a RavenXTG Airlink GPRS modem.

I successfully programmed the logger to record its own temperature and store the data in final storage with the date and time, as per the first programming example in the manual. When I connect and initiate manual download (either from pc208w or from the keypad), the data goes to the terminal screen, and I can watch it appear there, but it does not save to a .DAT file.

Can anyone help me to get it to save to a .DAT file, please?

From the PC208W toolbar select the Connect button. From there Connect to the datalogger by selecting it from the Station List on the left and clicking the Connect button in the lower right. Once connected, take a look at the upper center of the screen, that is the Manual Data Collection area. Check "prompt for data file name" then click the Collect button. Putting a check mark in that box ensures you know where the dat file will be.

Post again when you have success or other questions.

That is what I have been doing. The progress box shows that data has been collected, but there is no .dat file in the specified location. Then, when I initiate data transfer from the terminal, the data goes to the terminal but doesn't store in a file.

I was able to download the data from the datalogger to a .dat file using pc208w on an older laptop we have in the lab. This older laptop runs Windows 98. Perhaps I need to use a more recent program on my Windows XP machine?

PC208W is compatible with Windows XP; so, there must be something else going on with your laptop. If you want to upgrade, look at PC400 or LoggerNet http://www.campbellsci.com/datalogger-software

It's possibly not directly related, but I've solved the problems I had with PC208W crashing in an XPpro sandbox under VMWare 3 under OSX 20.6.3 by setting the program properties to run in compatibility mode as a Win95 program (win98 works too), so if you are running XPpro you might try that...
