radio configuration to collect from remote site

ekahler Nov 17, 2015 07:21 PM

So I've been able to connect my dataloggers and the radio to the PC directly (using Loggernet), but now I'd like to use the direct connection with the CR800 (via RS-232 and COM1 port on PC) to get data from it and the CR206X. I've tried to use Network Planner to get this set up, but none of the various configurations I've tried have enabled me to collect data from the CR206X without a direct connection from it to the PC.

This is my understanding of the connection requirements:

CR800 direct connection to PC through COM1 / RS-232 ports.
-direct connection of RF401A to CR800 to relay data from CR206X (CS I/O)

No physical connection, but a link between RF401A and the CR206's internal radio, plus an activity link between the CR206 and CR800 to send one-way data.

I'm assuming at this point that at least one of these "connections" or "links" in network planner is not allowed, but I'm not sure which. When we planned the purchase of this equipment we were told we would need the RF401A to connect to the CR800 in order to get data from the CR206 via its internal radio to the radio connected to the CR800.

I've been reviewing manuals and other help docs, and I checked the CR206 and RF401A settings to make sure they were compatible. A possible source of error may be in Setup - do I set up two Comports - one for the CR800 and one for the CR206 or include the CR206 below the CR800 using a simple comport (root)? I've tried it both ways, but still have had no luck collecting data from the CR206 without a direction connection to the PC.

As of tomorrow we are adding a modem to the mix, and will want it to communicate via AT&T's network to the PC, and the CR800 to communicate data from both dataloggers to it as well.

What you are attempting to do is legal in the network planner. You will need to create a model with LoggerNet, a CR800, and RF401, and a CR206. Draw a link from LoggerNet to the CR800 and choose the RS-232 link option. Now draw a link between the CR800 and the RF401 and choose the default stack type (this should be CS I/O SDC7). Finally, draw a link between the RF401 and the CR206 and choose a radio link type.

Ok, I have set it up just like that before - maybe I'm missing steps after that? I've done the setup and configured the devices...then what? There is a "network warning" that says

'there is no pakbus route to loggernet_1:loggernet'
'there is no pakbus route to cr800_1:CR800'
'there is no pakbus route to cr206_1:cr206'

Is that something I should be worried about?

So after I have the network planner configuration set up, what's the next step? I go to setup and try to setup the system there...

Well, I'm not entirely sure what WAS going wrong, but when I deleted my setup and reset to all devices to default configuration before reconfiguring and creating new setup (in...setup), it worked. I can officially collect data from the CR206 without a direct connection to the PC! Now if I can only maintain that connection after adding the router to the configuration...

Thanks for your help.
