insolation time

anyone has any idea to make a code to calculate the insolation time per day?

kind a replacement for the conventional heliograph!

thanks!

Are you trying to calculate the time from sunrise to sunset?
If so, try using the Solar Position calculation in the latest logger OS. You could just run a timer when elevation >0 and stop it when it's < 0...

No, im trying to count out the number of hours that is considered as bright sunshine like a campbell stokes conventional system.

i read the WMO disposition , who says it will be considered as a hour of sun when a piranometer exceeds 120 W/m2.

i tried with a simple if >=120 ..but ..it will also record as a hour of sun even if the day is cloudy or so.

Hi,

if you want to simulate a solar insolation (sunshine) sensor not is very simple, there are sensors that do this work, i.e. mod. CSD3 Kipp & Zonen, usedby CampbellSci. Without this type of sensor is a bit complicated because the 120 watt that you correctly say, however, are the difference between the global radiation and the diffuse, therefore, for the calculation would serve two instantaneous measurements, one of global radiation by a pyranometer and an other one with another pyranometer, but with shadow band.
