CR1000 over GPRS - DNS problem

Coralie Jan 28, 2015 09:06 AM

Hello,

I have already written regarding CR1000 connection over GPRS network problem.

Recently, I have encountered a new one I want to share here because I found no solutions.

The CR1000 dataloggers are connected to the GPRS network with Fastrack Xtend FXT009 modems that I switch on only part of the day through the SW12 port.

The CR1000 run OS 27.
The IP adresses are dynamic and I use a dyndns account to know everytime the IP adress.

The GPRS subscription is a M2M one and the APN is a specific one which attribute public IP adresses to allow incoming connections.

This was working well during several months and recently, several stations showed the same problem: No connection after the modem boot...

When I go to the station, the modem is connected to the internet. I even can see the dynamic IP adress obtained at the connection but the ip adress is not uploaded to the dyndns site and I can't download the data remotly...

The only strange thing I noticed is the DNS which is set to : 192.168.10.110
Here is an example (seen on device config utility) :

eth IP: 0.0.0.0
eth mask: 255.0.0.0
eth gw: 0.0.0.0
PPP IP: 90.122.97.78
PPP gw: 192.168.111.111
dns: 192.168.10.110

Normally, I should get the DNS of my internet provider. I contacted the ISP but they found no problem of network in their side...

I was wondering if the problem could not come from the CR1000 as the DNS IP adress obtained is a private one...

The only solution I found to make it work back is to shutdown the CR1000 and it is problematic when the station is far.

Do you have any idea on what can happen?

Thans,
Regards,
Coralie

The DNS address should be given to the datalogger from the cell modem.

You could probably work around the issue by setting a static DNS address in the CR1000.
