Measurement Matters - Daylight saving time

jra Oct 30, 2014 09:00 PM

Q: Daylight saving time ends this weekend. Do I need to do anything to my datalogger or software?

A: Probably not, but there are some settings in your software that you’ll want to take a look at and understand what they do.

In LoggerNet’s Setup screen, select your datalogger from the Network on the left, and the clock tab at the top.

I have my “Automated Clock Check” DISABLED, which is what I generally recommend. When it is enabled, the datalogger's clock is compared with the LoggerNet server's clock and automatically set if it is off by the amount indicated in the Allowed Clock Deviation setting.

The datalogger will not be contacted specifically for a clock check, but it will check during the next data collection attempt, manual or scheduled.

Tip: When daylight saving time ends we move our clocks back an hour. That means that if you adjust the datalogger’s clock by that hour you can end up with two records with the same timestamp. That's something to keep in mind as you're reviewing your data.
