LS300 CR1000 Problem

LarryT Apr 4, 2014 12:21 PM

Hello,
We have been forced to move to the LX300 cellular modems, and upgraded our power systems as a consequence, and am having trouble communicating with a CR1000. For testing, we used a CR200 and the template from the CSI download section but set the baud rate to 9600 in ALEOS to match the CR200. This worked fine, absolutely no problems with that setup.

However, when switching to the CR1000, the modem will not talk to the CR1000 through the RS-232 port. The baud rate was set at "115,200 Fixed" on the CR1000 and in ALEOS on the LS300. A SC12 cable with a null modem adapter was used to attach the LS300 to the RS232 port of the CR1000. This same cable plus null modem adapter was used with the CR200 so that should not be an issue.

Any ideas? I thought about lowering the baud rate but feel I must be missing something?

Thanks,

Larry

Also, switched from the SC12 cable to a serial cable with the null modem adapter on the advise of CSI but this has not helped.

Any more ideas would be appreciated.

Solved the problem by using an SC932 interface and plugging the serial cable into the CS I/O port instead of the RS-232 on the CR1000.

Our enclosure is getting crowded so removing the SC932 would have been a plus but was unable to get the RS-232 port to talk with the LS300 modem. So, if anyone has any information as to how to get the RS-232 port to talk to a cellular modem, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Larry

If you are using GSM dial up (CSD) then the Baud rate has to be fixed at 9600.

Larry T, did you get any response with this? I am having the same issues setting up a CR1000 with an LS300 modem to no avail. How did you connect the SC932 interface between the modem and CR1000? Did you have to set up PPP? Anything helps.

Thanks!

Hey STM123,

I ended up having to use a SC932A interface between the modem and the CS I/O port on the datalogger. We already had the SC932A's so it was not an extra expense. I did NOT use the PPP but the standard mode as we use LoggerNet on a server and retrieve data every 15 minutes. I am not a big fan of the PPP mode as LoggerNet is great at catching up any missed data.

However, I have tested the LS300, the RAVENXTV and older RAVEN models with a CR200X and CR206X using a null modem cable and/or adapter with no problems whatsoever, works like a charm. But the CR1000 would not work at all???? Also tried a straight serial cable and no luck there either. Really strange IMHO.

On another note, The LS300 eats power faster than the old RAVENs. I am using the white 'low power' wire connected to the SW12 port on the datalogger and have the port set to turn the modem on for 5 minutes, collect the data and then go into 'low power mode' for 10 minutes. Our stations are solar powered so we went with a 20 Watt solar panel and two 7 amp-hour batteries as well. Summer is not a problem but in winter there can be low irradiance levels.

Let me know if you figure anything out,

LarryT

LarryT,

What OS is on the CR1000?

I have had issues in the past which were all solved by OS27.

EarlyBird,

Yes I have OS27 installed on the CR1000's.

Comm port settings on the CR1000 must be the issue then. Can you check the settings and compare with another logger?

For CSD the modem and RS232 port need to be 9600 fixed baud.
