GSM RTU's and central station

Corneliu Oct 21, 2008 11:44 AM

Hello,

I need an advice for an application that I want to build
with CSI products. I am new to these products.

It is about eight RTU's with GSM communication
spread on the territory and
a central station with web server. Customer wants to see
all the data and history on his Ethernet/Internet network with
the Internet browser.

Each RTU will measure a single analog signal,
so I want to use CR800 as datalogger.
Will be one measurement per hour.
At each measurement will be a transmission to central station.
The data will be stored at central station
For communication I want to use a CS-GSM kit for
every CR800 datalogger.

For central station will be a regular computer / server
(OS: Windows XP)
with CS-GSM-RS232 kit
and software: LoggerNet and RTMC WebServer.

And now the questions:
-is it possible to build my application with the above
components? (or other are needed)
-should I use LoggerNet Admin to run as a service
or LoggerNet is enough?
-RTMC Developer software is powerful enough
to allow me to build several web pages to allow
the customer to see data, graphics and history
for all RTU's?
-the web server has a limitation on number of
concurrent users / clients?

Thank you in advance.

To answer your questions:

1) Is it possible to build my application with the above
components? (or other are needed)

A: Yes, although you will also need power supplies enclosures etc.

2) should I use LoggerNet Admin to run as a service
or LoggerNet is enough?

A: For high reliability the service option of Admin is preferable, but neither RTMC nor the RTMC Webserver can run as a service so you will need to run the serving machine in a permanently "Logged on" state to run those packages.

3) [Is] RTMC Developer software is powerful enough
to allow me to build several web pages to allow
the customer to see data, graphics and history
for all RTU's?

A: RTMC Developer software is powerful enough to display the data and serve pages using the RTMC Webserver.

The Pro version allows some more graphical options too, plus you can trigger alarms etc on the main server. It also allows you to dump graphical images to file on a timed basis, which can be loaded into a more powerful website (and server) if you wish.

BTW neither of these programs let you scroll back too far in time, in terms of historical data - you can only see current or data on stripcharts.

If you want a full data storage and analysis program you might want to consider a third party package that CS can supply, such as Vista Data Vision. That package has a web function too.

4) the web server has a limitation on number of concurrent users / clients?

A: There are no builit in limits on either of these numbers, although the PC operating system (limit on IP connections) and power of the machine will ultimately limit both factors.
