Detecting voltage transients

rlwoell Nov 7, 2013 04:00 PM

I am currently measuring voltage supplied to vehicle electronics. I am using a CR1000 and making measurements in a subscan at 10 hz. This rate was chosed to capture voltage drop during operations such as engine start.

Now I would like to look at the voltage in a different way to try to capture any transients due to relay switching etc. My thought is to also look at the voltage as a pulse input and measure it using the PulseCount instruction on the control ports.

My plan is to place the PulseCount in the subscan so that any counts could be associated with the measured voltage during that particular subscan interval.

Does anyone have any suggestions or see any problems with this approach.

Also, does the PulseCount instruction run in the background and therefore have little impact on the timing of the scan or subscan?
