Radio Repeater Network

Asulv Oct 24, 2013 07:32 PM

I Have a network of 5 CR850 loggers wich use Satel UHF radioes in transparent mode for communication to a PC with LoggerNet. Two of the stations should act as repeaters for the stations farthest out.

My problem is that this works fine on the lab, but I'm not able to test the repeaterfunctionality because of the autorouting Pakbus functionality wich makes all the loggers communicate directly with LoggerNet PC and not use the repeaters.

Is there a way to lock the routes in the logger so that the station wich will need to use repeaters when it's placed out in the field also do that on the lab?

I've tried the Allowed Neighbours filter, but it won't filter messages with high Pakbus adresses comming from LoggerNet (4094)

You are on the right track. Change the Pakbus address of LoggerNet to something less than 4000. You can the address of LoggerNet using one of the menu bar options in the Setup screen.

Alternatively you could probably change the radios to have separate tx and Rx frequencies.

Base tx on freq a and Rx on b
Repeater tx on b and Rx on a
Remotes tx on a and Rx on b.

The remotes will only talk to the repeater in this case.

As a side it seems like it would be better to let the radios handle the repeating if possible. Don't the radios have a mode that is smarter than "transparent"?

As Sam mentioned above, the LoggerNet PakBus address can be changed to any value. Beyond what he mentioned, you might want to consider the following:

- turn off beacons on everything but the repeater (set the beacon intervals to zero).

- Instead of laying out the stations in the LoggerNet network map as children to the PakBus port, set up the slave stations as children to the repeater station. This will cause LoggerNet to use the correct static routes from the outset.
