Power outage

azs Feb 6, 2013 07:36 PM

I am using a CR1000 data logger connected to a 12V Power Supply w/Charging Regulator &
7Ah Sealed Rechargeable Battery from Campbell Scientific. The power went out the other day. After that point, the program was no longer uploaded to the data logger and no data was collected until I uploaded it again. The power was out for less than 2 hours. The CR1000 is powering one sonde that consumes 16 mA at 24 volts.

I have two questions. Why didn't the 7 amp battery continue to power the data logger during the outage and why did the program disappear from the data logger?

Thanks

Have you confirmed that the 7 Ahr battery has a charge? That is can maintain a charge under load? That it is actually connected to the charging regulator?

When you sent the program to the datalogger, how did you send it? Was it marked to run now and on power up?

What is your lithium battery voltage reading in the status table?

The lithium battery is at 13.34 volts. I remember seeing the option to run now and on power up during previous uploads, but I wasn't able to find that option last time I uploaded the code to the data logger. Where is that?

Later today, I will be traveling to the lab where the data logger is located and will be able to confirm whether the 7 Ahr battery is connected to the charging regulator.

Thanks for your help.

I think you are reading the wrong battery voltage. 13.34 would be the lead acid battery. The lithium battery voltage is reported in the status table and is around 3V. Please double check.

The run on power settings is only seen if you use the CRBasic editor to load the program or you use the File Control option to stop and start programs.

If you load the program via the connect screen the program is always set to run on power-up.

The lithium battery is at 3.46 and I do load the program through the connect screen. So even if the 7mah battery was not wired correctly or charged to avoid a gap in logging values, the program should have started up again after the outage. Is there anything else I should look for?
