RavenXTG Modem Power Issues

oceanographer Jan 18, 2013 09:51 PM

I am using a CR1000 with a Raven XTG modem for communications. The CR1000 has 2 serial sensor and 4 analog sensors which all utilize either the 12V or 5V aux power supplies on the datalogger. I am seeing a rather high quiescent current draw from the data logger while it runs my sampling cycle. The cycle is actually 12 minutes of powering and taking data, and 48 minutes of "sleep mode". What I see is about 20 mA current when it is asleep. This will drop down to 4 if I unplug the the power from the auxilliary ports and the null modem cable from the RS-232 port (most of the power drop comes from the RS-232 port). When I first load a program, the current draw stays low for about 3 minutes, around 4 mA (which is still higher than it should be when "asleep") and then jumps up to 20 and stays there. I tried reloading the OS which made no difference. I changed out null modem cables, checked my wiring to make sure I hadn't caused any grounds. Any advice on troubleshooting? Thank you!
