Reduce radio power usage

Meena Jul 30, 2012 01:28 PM

Hi,

I have a CR1000 in the field, and it's connected to my base computer with a standard RF401-RF430 setup. However, the radios seem to be using up the power too quickly, and so I don't get all the readings I should be (half of them show up at NANs). I have come up with two possibilities:

1 - Reduce the duty cycle so that it only draws 0.4 mA rather than the default 4 mA. However, the radios are already deployed in the field, and so are only accessible with difficulty. Is there a way to change the configuration to reduce the duty cycle without directly connecting to the radio and pressing the program button?

2 - Change the program so that the radio shuts down or hibernates from 8 PM to 7 AM, when I do not need any readings, and/or changes the listening interval to much less than every half second (I am only taking readings once an hour). However, I am not sure how to program this (I am using CRBASIC in Loggernet).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.
