IP port on non static IP address

furban May 5, 2009 06:09 PM

I am investigating trying to interface a Freewave radion with NL100 or possibly a Moxa port server with a DSL modem that does NOT provide a static IP address as a means to access a small network of CR10X (pakbus) based dataloggers. Is there a way, or has anyone had any consistent luck setting up a system to somehow access an IPport within Loggernet with some type of DHCP or dynamic addressing? setting up something within a TZO or DMZ infrastructure to access a range of IP addresses?

If you look early on in the Forum messages you will see a discussion about using a Dynamic DNS service, using a CR1000 datalogger. (For such a service see http://www.dyndns.com/)

Loggernet will work with this type of service as you can put a URL in the IP field for the logger.

To make this work with your system, with the older loggers (and no GPRS) you'd need to make the ADSL modem connect to the dyndns service. Most modern modems/routers now support a dynamic DNS service, so it is fairly simple to setup if you check the modem does the work for this first.

Normally you'd address each logger via configuring the serial port server / NL100s to use differnet sockets for each logger. If using a router, set up port forwarding to the different NL100s.
